God has placed a call on the Payks to overseas ministry in general and a call to the country of Taiwan in particular. Taipei, Taiwan is one of the most densely populated cities in the world with nearly 7 million in the Greater Taipei (capital city) Area. Approximately only 3% of the country’s population is evangelical Christian: this means that for the Taiwanese church to reach its own people with the life-changing gospel of Christ, it needs international partnership of human and financial resources.
In 2006, Chris and Terri spent two months working in and with Mucha Free Methodist Church in Taipei in the areas of preaching, leading Bible studies, teaching English as an Additional Language, and prayer counseling ministry. Last August, Chris returned to Mucha Church for 4 weeks: preaching, teaching, and visiting FM missionaries. The Payk family has moved to Taiwan and will be there for three years. The first two years will be primarily spent in full-time study of Mandarin Chinese language and Taiwanese culture as well as “learning-through-doing” educational ministry with Mucha Church. In the third year, with the ability to converse in Chinese, more full-time ministry will be possible. One area of ministry in which the Payks hope to serve is within the huge population of junior high, high school, and university students in Taiwan. It is currently permitted to form Christian groups in some schools: this poses an incredible opportunity for outreach, biblical training, and mentorship.
Others on Mission:
Two members of RRCC, Ross Dodridge and Lloyd Cornwall, have recently helped build a church in the Dominican Republic. We are excited about being a "sending" church. We are in the midst of planning a short-term mission trip to either the Dominican Republic to help build another church or to Haiti to help with their relief efforts.
We at RRCC seek to fulfil Acts 1:8 by caring for the world God has entrusted to us, locally and globally, with the love of Jesus.
